For the best Freshman milers/800 runners i would have to say Bakri Aboushouk of Cary. He was timed with a 4:26 in the mile last year and finished in second in the 1000 at 4A states. For the best miler in general i personally think Chris Garret of West Johnston will sweep either the 1600 and 800 or the 1600 and 2 mile.

@phstrackandfield If we are really interested in track and field, we should use correct terms. It has been many years since the mile or two mile events have been run. 1600 meters is not the same as 5280 feet or 1760 yards. We don't run the 440 or 880 or 4 x 110 relay anymore.

@PolkCounty I am not sure about the top freshmen, but I coach an 8th grader, Mason Kepley; She is consistently running 6:10 (1600), 1:03 (400) and 2:50 (800) in middle school and those events are one after the other. I plan on entering her unattached in any meet that I'm able.

ok well I think I am going to rephrase the question a bit. Who are the best current male high school freshman in the 1600 and 800 meter events that you have heard of?

@PolkCounty Actually at Indoor nationals they ran the Mile and Two Mile. I believe they will run the Mile in outdoor nationals as well in NC this spring.

@blueskydwg right, its just sometimes there are meets that dont make it on here, so I just am wondering if possibly there are some other times out there. Thanks though for the information.

Fea a freshman at North Lincoln has broke 5. His teammates, both juniors, have run 4:41 Mosteller, and Perez has run 4:43. Watch out for North Lincoln this year!!!! Blake of Lincolnton Middle School 8th grade has broken 6 on the girl's side.

Today at Mooresville, Maxey (Providence) and Ben Huffman (Providence Day) went head to head in the mile, Maxey won, but both went sub-4:43, the official results aren't up yet.

@phstrackandfield Huffman got edged in the 1600, but I believe both were clocked at 4:43. Then Huffman got Maxey in the 3200 as he went around 10:15. Both athletes looked good.

@CoachHovis Maxey looked exhausted in the 3200, and was about 38 seconds off his PR last week.

Sam Dunson and Marc Ordronneau from Chapel Hill (3A). Dunson has gone 2:10 (800) and 4:45 (1600), Ordronneau dropped a 10:34 (3200) the other day in a tri meet after returning from a broken foot. Both my teammates, both very capable of improvement. Watch for Dunson to be around 4:35 and 2:07 by season's end, and Ordronneau to be around 10:20 or better.

For the guys side, Maxey and Huffman are impressive in the 1600 and 3200 with 4:43 and 10:15s- both are around 2:07/2:10 respectively. L Jack Britts's Ben Powell has a 4:40. Jordan's Nikki Kreiling has a 4:43 and 10:18. Broughton's Will Robinson has a 4:51 and 10:27 Greenhope's Tom Nobles could pull out a strong 1600 already with a 10:35 and from XC a strong sub 17 minute time. To me a standout, Ardrey Kell's Christian White with a 1:59 800m and a 4:45 1600. There are many competitive freshman around 4:50s and equally 2:10s. For the girls, Ardrey Kell's Sydney Foreman has 2:29 800, 5:23 1600, and 11:15 for the 3200. Very impressive. Charlotte catholic's Margaret Corcoran has 5:27. Grimsley's Tori Churchhill has a 5:29 and 11:28. Wakefield's Ricole Jenkins has a 2:23. There are many standout freshman not mentioned with 2:30 and around a 5:45 that as well have great potential.
