North Carolina Outdoor Breakthrough Performances: Week of May 11

North Carolina high school track and field athletes posted personal records at state championship meets during the week of May 11.

Chekai Hicks (Dudley) ran 21.14 in the boys' 200 meters at the NCHSAA 6A State Championship on May 16, improving from his previous best of 22.23 set in July 2024. The mark ranks #7 in North Carolina and earned Hicks second place among 14 competitors.

Brooke Haynes (Mount Airy) won the girls' 3200 meters at the NCHSAA 3A State Championship on May 14 with a time of 11:41.69, breaking her previous personal record of 12:09.63. The performance set a Mount Airy school record and ranks #105 in the state among 1,187 athletes.
