INDUCTION CEREMONIES FOR NORTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL

TRACK & FIELD AND CROSS COUNTRY HALL OF FAME

RESCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE AT HISTORIC APEX LIONS' RELAYS

Founded in 1979, the meet is one of the oldest in North Carolina

125 performances are currently on the North Carolina All-Time Top-50 list

WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA - Because of the recent snow and ice that affected the entire state of North Carolina, the North Carolina High School Track & Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame made the difficult decision to cancel its induction ceremony at this year's Mondo Elite Invitational at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, for the safety of everyone traveling to the event.

This year's event has been rescheduled and will take place on April 18 at the historic Apex Lions' Relays, which began in 1979, and is one of the oldest meets in North Carolina.

Each year the Apex Lions' Relays produces some of the fastest sprint and distance relay performances in North Carolina, most notably the Distance Medley Relay and 4x1600-Meter Relay in the distance events, and 800-Meter Sprint Medley and 1,600-Meter Sprint Medley in the sprint events.

There are currently a staggering 125 performances on the North Carolina All-Time Top-50 list that have been achieved at the Apex Lions' Relays, including the oldest performance from the 1981 meet, and an incredible 34 performances the last two years alone (18 in 2025 and 16 in 2024).

In all, there are 25 all-time North Carolina Top-50 performances in the boys' 4x1600-Meter Relay, 23 in the girls' 4x1600-Meter Relay, 15 in the boys' Distance Medley Relay, 11 in the girls' Distance Medley Relay, 13 in the boys' 1,600-Meter Sprint Medley and 21 in the girls' 800-Meter Sprint Medley.

The North Carolina High School Track & Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame is grateful to the Apex Lions' Relays' for hosting this year's event at such an historic meet.

The induction ceremony will return to JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem in 2027 at the Mondo Elite Invitational.

We look forward to continuing to honor those who paved the way for the current group of coaches and athletes in North Carolina, so that they could be inspired to reach higher than they thought possible.
