MileSplit North Carolina 2022-2023 End of Year Awards

Boys MVP - Rocky Hansen

Rocky Hansen was more than historic during his senior season. He won all but once race during the fall, including wins at adidas XC, NCISAA 4A States, and Champs South Regional.

On top of that, he set a state record in the cross country 5,000m at the Alexander/Asics Invitational in Georgia. He ran away from the field and crossed the line in 14:20.90.

During indoor season, he won the 1-mile run at New Balance Grand Prix, running 4:01.11. A week later, he ran an indoor state record of 4:00.84 to take 4th at Millrose Games.

He also ran a state record 2:27.32 in the 1K in his only 1K race of the season.

During outdoor season he was just as strong. He won the 800m-1600m-3200m triple at the NCISAA DI State Championship.

He set state records in the 1-Mile/1600m and 2-Mile/3200m runs. He ran 8:54.41 to win the state championship, but less than a month later he clocked 8:35.22 (2-Mile) to set a state record and place 3rd at Brooks PR.

We haven't even gotten to his most impressive feat.

He became the 18th high schooler in history to break the 4:00 barrier in the 1-mile. He ran not one, but two sub 4:00 performances on the year. He ran 3:59.56 to win the Virginia High Performance Meet against a college field. He then ran 3:59.23 to take runner-up at HOKA Festival of Miles.

Hansen graduates as the greatest distance runner to come through North Carolina.
