Carolina Distance Carnival Preview

Boys 1,600m

North Carolina's brightest are taking on some of the best of the best in our neighboring states.

Sam Rich (Catawba Ridge) is making the trip from SC, and Levi Streeval (Daniel Boone) is making the journey from TN.

Streeval, a Lipscomb commit, holds a 1:52 personal best in the 800m, and a 9:10 best in the 2 mile. He was 3rd in the mile at adidas Indoor Track Nationals, running 4:16.

Rich, a Notre Dame commit, is making another trip up to North Carolina to chase some fast times. He won the Raleigh Relays 3,200m and the Clash of the Carolinas 1,600m. He has a best time in the mile of 4:10 from the 2021 RunningLane Track Championships.

Jacob Laney (Porter Ridge), Rocky Hansen (Christ School), and Caden Townshend (Weddington) headline the field for #TeamNC.

Laney is currently NC No. 1 this season in both the 1,600m and mile. He ran 4:11 for the full mile last weekend at Mount Tabor Mile.

Hansen is currently NC No. 1 in the 3,200m after running 8:51 at Arcadia Invitational. He won the mile at adidas Indoor National Championship running 4:14, and doubled back in the 2 mile, running 9:07.

Townshend has run 1:56, 4:14, and 9:05 over 800, 1,600m, and 3,200m respectively, making him one of the most versatile athletes in North Carolina

Prediction: Hansen, Laney, and Streeval battle to the line and Hansen leans for the win in mid-to-low 4:00's
