Sanu Jallow has a busy day ahead of her as she is also competing in the 1,000m. Like the sprints, she has a chance at rewriting the record books. The 3A state meet record (2:58.25) and overall state meet record (2:53.81) are in jeopardy as Jallow has gone 2:52.08 in a polar bear meet this season. Navaya Zales (Croatan) is going to be on her hip pushing her as she has gone 2:58 this season.
The boys' field in the 1,000m is deep, and is led by Warner Campbell (First Flight) who has a personal best of 2:35.65. The top nine seeds have all gone under 2:40. Baker is attempting the 500m/1,000m double and sits as the second seed with a best time of 2:36.29. Elliott Kleckner (South Central) is chasing gold as well, and he will be donning hip No. 3 with his 2:37.50 best. Other notables include Giovanni Rincon (Union Pines), Nicholas Willer (Stuart Cramer), Stephen Fernetti (North Lincoln), and Cooper Kleckner (South Central).
The Kleckner's lead the field in the 1,600m, with Elliott having the top seed time of 4:21.51, and Cooper second with his 4:25.08 best. The field behind them is going to be just as hungry for the title as they will again face Baker, the Willer's, and Fernetti. Two other names to watch out for are Spencer Hampton (Orange) and Colten Rodriguez (Croatan).
Zales leads the girls' field in the 1,600m. Caroline Murrell (Northwood), Hannah Preisser (Carrboro), Margaret Ann Healy (DSA), and Cara Castro (North Lincoln) are all in this field and are all very experienced runners.
Murrell holds the advantage in seed-time over Zales in the 3,200m, however, with her NC No. 3 10:39.44. Preisser joins the two in the 3,200m. Bella Wood (North Lincoln) could be a name to watch as she may have the freshest legs of the bunch.
