NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor State Championship Preview

Field

Ta'Honny Exum (Eastern Wayne) has been going off this season, and is not looking like she's slowing down. Her best toss this season of 41-10 is just over a foot off the 1A/2A state meet record of 41-11. With the adrenaline of a state championship, this record could go down.

Daisy Hearn (Pender) and Jordan Oliver (Murphy) will go head-to-head in the wheelchair shot put for the title!

The boys shot put field is small but strong. Calvin Transeau (North Wilkes) leads the field with a 46-9 toss.

Tamesia Pinnix and Zoie Shuler will spend a lot of their days when they're not on the track in the jump pit, as they are two of the favorites in both the long and triple jump. Shuler, however, has the top seed in the long jump of 17-10, just a half of an inch ahead of Pinnix, and triple jump.

Bivens is a dark horse in the long jump as she jumped 17-4 this season.

The whole boys field in long jump are within a foot of each other. Koi'Leon Foreman (North Pitt) leads the field and is the only one to clear 21' this season. Mountain Island Charter duo Jaryd Broome and Jaylen Brown are both within two inches of Foreman's best, and very strong candidates to win the long jump. There is no breathing room in this field as Joel McCloskey (Lincoln Charter), Blake Hawks (Mount Airy), Northeastern teammates Jordan JonesQuavion Martin and Shamar Sutton, Jared Hiatt (North Surry), Jaikhob Covington (Monroe), and are all hunting for the top spot.

Jessica Jenkins (Northeastern) and Sarah Owens (Forbush) have both cleared 5-0 in high jump this season. They will have little wiggle room as a ton of the field sits right at 4-10.

Jaylen Cogdell (Kinston) and Kenneth Byrd (East Burke) both have jumped 6-5 this season, with Hiatt right behind at 6-4.

In pole vault Abigail Tully (Wilkes Central) will be going after the 1A/2A state meet record of 12-0, while on the boys side Byrd will be going for the 1A/2A record of 14-10. His personal best this season is currently 15-4.
