Boys 800m

This will be a tight race up front. The top twelve seeds are all within 5 seconds of each other based on their regional performances. Jacob Laughlin (Mountain Island Charter) had the fastest time of the weekend en route to winning the 1A Midwest in 2:04.33. CJ Pacholke (Bishop McGuinness) was just behind Laughlin taking 2nd in the region in 2:05.84. Chase Pierce (Murphy) was just a few hundredths of a second off Laughlin's time as he won the 1A West Region in 2:04.84. Matthew Radin (Lincoln Charter) was runner-up to Pierce but still had the 3rd fastest time of the weekend, running 2:05.71. Karl Benson (Lejune) took the 1A East Region in 2:06.66 and his teammate Preston Berthold was runner-up in 2:09.65. Colby Orr (Franklin Academy) ran 2:05.89 to win the 1A Mideast Region and will be the No. 5 seed this weekend.

Boys 1600m

Defending NCHSAA 1A Cross Country state champion and senior Aaron Rovnak (Franklin Academy) will be competing for the final time of his high school career this weekend. Rovnak won the 1600m title at the 1A Mideast Regional with the fastest time of the weekend in 1A of 4:37.47. Lejune teammates Karl Benson and Preston Berthold went 1-2 in the 1600m at the 1A East Region, just like in the 800m. Williams Lyons (South Davidson) won a tight 1A Midwest Region over Evan Mitchell (Union Academy). Ben Resler (Cornerstone Charter) was runner-up to Rovnak at 1A Mideast and will be in contention for an all-state spot.

Boys 3200m

Aaron Rovnak (Franklin Academy) will have a chance to complete the 1600m/3200m double this weekend. Rovank ran away with the 1A Mideast 3200m title in 9:50, being the only 1A qualifier to break 10:30 at their region. Ben Resler was runner-up to Rovnak in their region and will be the second seed, and Brandon McKoy (Chatham Charter) was 3rd to Rovnak and Resler and will be the third seed this weekend. William Lyons (South Davidson) won the 1A Midwest Region in 10:45. Nicholas Presley (Lejune) won the 1A East Region in 11:32. Caleb Jones (Murphy) took the 1A West Region in 10:48. Lincoln Charter freshman Ben Bruce and Tucker Caulder went 2-3 at the 1A West Region behind the senior Jones.
