Similarly to the boys' side, last season's top three from the state meet all graduated. Now-Sophomores Margaret Sept (East Chapel Hill) and Kaitlyn Obremski (Topsail) dueled for the first time at the 3A State Meet in 2019 with Sept edging Obremski for 4th place. Makayla Obremski (Topsail) could challenge for the crown as well; she posted a 5:06 1600m time during the short track season. Her 1600m time is 3 seconds faster than Kaitlyn's, so that race will be quite a fight! Chapel Hill's duo of Amelia Maughan and Abby Webber are also strongly in the running for the 3A title. Madeline Hill (Cuthbertson) and Lillian Nasta (Cuthbertson) are another powerful duo. The rising sophomore Nasta was All-State in XC last season. Anna Ritter (Weddington) is another returning All-State runner from last season and she will look to pull her teammate Alyx Beausoleil up in the mix with her. This 3A race could be the best race of the day at the State Meet.
