Jordan senior and University of South Carolina commit Chase Hunter broke Kyzaiah Stone's (Cleveland, 2022) High Jump State Record with a win at the VA Showcase at 7 feet 2 inches.

Hunter came into the meet with a best mark on the indoor season of 7-0 from last weekend at Seaforth's Beat the Sleet Invitational.  Last spring as a junior Hunter cleared 7-1 at the NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional Champions and finished as the NCHSAA 4A State Runner-Up Outdoors after a third place finish indoors.

Today's competition opened at 6-4 for the Invitational High Jump at the VA Showcase in Virginia Beach.  Hunter would pass on his first attempt and open at 6-6.  He'd clear 6-6, 6-8 and 6-10 all on his first attempt.  He'd lead the competition with no misses heading to 7-0 with Panther Creek's Moktar Lemine and Wester. Central's (OH) Elijah Harris each clearing 6-10.

All three boys would miss on their first two attempts at 7-0 before Hunter would clear his final jump to secure the individual win at one of the strongest meets in the country.  The bar would go up to 7-2 and Hunter would miss on his first attempt, but clear the mark for a new personal best on his second attempt!

Hunter would miss out with three attempts at 7-4, but moves up from US#8 Indoors to tied for US#1.

The North Carolina Outdoor High Jump State record is 7-3.25 by Tanner Anderson of East Burke High School set in 2010.
