We saw an exciting ending to the NCHSAA 3A Indoor 3200m this indoor season in a battle between future teammates Jacob Gallant (Mount Tabor) and Avery Cannon (Watauga). Both boys were contenders across the distance events, but scratched other events with eyes on the 3200m title. Cannon was the 3A XC State Champion and a Foot Locker Finalist while Gallant was the 3200m Runner-Up both indoors and outdoors in 2019.
Cannon led most of the way and looked to be pulling away from Gallant as they hit the bell. Gallant unleashed a massive kick out of no where to pull past Cannon for his first NCHSAA State title in a new PR of 9:18.17.
