Cummings coach Donald Davis and North Lincoln coach Jerry Castro has been awarded North Carolina's USTFCCCA Coach of the Year.
Cummings girls dominated the NCHSAA 2A Indoor and Outdoor State Championships scoring 76 points indoors and 90 points outdoors. Their indoor title win was by 33 points and outdoors by 40 points.
Since the NCHSAA held the 2A State Championships in 1994 Cummings Girls have now won 26 of those team titles outdoors. Davis became the head coach at Cummings in 2003 so has lead the program to 8 of those 12 titles. He's been a part of all 28 state championship on the boys and girls side as he started coaching their in 1987.
Castro had a historic year at North Lincoln narrowly winning three state titles with a distance heavy program.
North Lincoln won the 2A cross country title with 36 points, winning by 38 over First Flight. They took 2nd indoors scoring 66 points, but falling to Croatan by 14 points. They then won the outdoor title with 76.5 points winning by 19.5 points over Croatan.
North Lincoln has won 4 2A cross country state titles since 2011. They were 3A for part of that span from 2014-2016. They won their schools first ever NCHSAA Track title this spring by winning the outdoor title in the spring.
