9. Will Atkins takes down loaded 1000m field
West Forsyth's Will Atkins came in as the three seed had his eyes on the 1000m state title. He'd run 2:33.86 this season. Anton Idhammar had run 2:28 this year, but was coming off a hard mile win. Atkins and Pace Clark (Providence) were set to make the race honest up front. Clark lead, but going into bell lap Atkins made his move. He began to pull away from Clark and came through the line with a 2:31.54 to be the 4A 1000m champion. Clark clocked a PR of 2:33.80 to take 2nd just ahead of Idhammar at 2:34.04.
