The NCHSAA 4A State Championship Lived Up To The Hype

Discus

Chancelor Crawford (North Mecklenburg) blew away the field throwing a NC #2 170'03", which was almost 8 feet ahead of the runner up Mason Ellis (West Forsyth) who threw 162'07". Ellis' teammate Nathan Myers finished 3rd throwing 161'02" and the senior Joey Jegier (Providence) finished 4th.

Shot Put

Chancelor Crawford won his second event of the day with another NC #2 throw of 58'4". Behind Crawford were Timon Edelen (Wakefield) who threw 54'02", Mason Ellis who threw 52'03", and Jack Choiniere (Myers Park) who threw 50'05". These four boys all earned All-State honors.

High Jump

In one of the most competitive events of the day, Idris Bernard (Mallard Creek) capture the high jump victory with a leap of 6'8". Bernard Jr.'s victory came over some elite talent such as Randolph Ross, Jide Huntley (Porter Ridge), and Omar McBride (Apex) who finished 2-3-4 respectively.

Long Jump

Khalil Scott (Olympic) fell just short of the 24' mark but still managed to get the victory with an NC #2 jump of 23'10.5". Behind Scott were Christopher Alexander (Rocky River) finishing 2nd, Eric Haddock (Southeast Raleigh) finishing 3rd, and Austin Richardson (Porter Ridge) finishing 4th.

Triple Jump

Christopher Alexander finished his great day with a victory and NC #2 and State Meet Record jump of 49'04" only 2 inches behind #1! Alexander dominated the field with over a one foot margin between him and 2nd place. It was Terrence Lackey (Mooresville) who finished 2nd jumping 48'03". Emmanuel Lewis (South Central) and Eric Haddock complete the top four.

Pole Vault

Sophomore Spencer Evans (Lake Norman) was the only jumper able to clear 15'0" Saturday and finished victorious at a final height of 15'6". Seth Rabinowitz (Providence), Jeremy Huang (Apex), and Chandler Ward (Ragsdale) all jumped 14'6" for the 2-3-4 spots.

Wheelchair Throws

Ladale Gambrell set a state record in the discus throw with a toss of 55'07" taking the win with Christopher Coke taking 2nd throwing 35'00". In the shot put, Gambrell set a personal best with a 16'06.5" throw. Coke was 2nd with a throw of 14'07.5". Lucas Grant (Athens Drive) finished 3rd in his only event of the day throwing 6'08".
