NCHSAA 4A Boys Indoor State Championships Preview

Relays

4x800

All eyes are on Green Hope entered in first event of the day as they have a mark of 8:01.12, twelve seconds better than NC#2 Mallard Creek at 8:13.20.  The majority of schools normally post huge season's best at the state meet and we could see a few schools give Green Hope a run for their money.  The Falcons were the favorites heading into the state meet last season, but were taken down by Mt. Tabor.  But all signs show that three of Green Hope's legs, Ian Delgado, Finn McBride, and Matthew Kehn and in fantastic shape and they will be tough to beat come Saturday.

4x200

Looking at marks not run on an outdoor track, Parkland holds the fastest time in the state of 1:30.09 followed by Southeast Raleigh at 1:31.53.  Green Hope has run 1:32.00 indoors, but that'll place them in the 2nd fastest heat, which could benefit them as they could get out to an early lead and not have to focus on passing throughout the race.  But all eyes will certainly be on Parkland and anchor Trequan Barnes as the head into the final section.

4x400

Cary posted an impressive 3:23.90 last week to take the state lead in the 4x400 heading into the state meet.  They'll be joined by Parkland, Grimsley, Southeast Raleigh, Green Hope and High Point Central who all are certainly threats to win it.  Green Hope ran 3:26.64 as anchor leg Jayquan Williams ran down Parkland and Southeast Raleigh on the final leg.  The meet record is 3:25.54 set by New Bern in 2006 and both Cary and Parkland have run faster this indoor season.
