NCHSAA Girls 3A State Championships Preview

Distance

1600m

This should be a very competitive 1600 between Sarah Latour (Cuthbertson), Katherine Dokholyan (Chapel Hill), Emme Fisher (West Carteret) and Sarah Bechtel (Weddington).  All four girls are likely to run a 4x800 leg earlier in the day.  LaTour has the fastest mark of the indoor season at 5:04.65, but Fisher and Dokholyan both have 5:00 PRs from the outdoor state meet last spring and will not let LaTour get any distance on them easily.  Dokholyan has run 5:10, Fisher 5:15 and Bechtel 5:11 this indoor season.

1000m

Emme Fisher (West Carteret) comes in with the fastest seed time of 2:59 with Sarah LaTour (Cuthbertson) just behind that at 3:00.73.  Jennae Jacob (Marvin Ridge) with not compete in the 1600 earlier in the day and should be recovered from a 4x800 leg earlier in the day and be ready to contender for an individual title.  Sarah Bechtel (Weddington) has also run 3:04.90 this indoor season and will certainly be in the mix as this should be a quick 1000 final while each athlete will have at least one race under their legs

Katherine Dokholyan (Chapel Hill) comes in with the fastest seed time of 10:58 and will see the same competition that she does in the 1600 in Fisher, Bechtel and LaTour.  In cross country it was Fisher that dominated 3A and last outdoor season it was LaTour who got the nod for 2nd behind Anna Vess (AC Reynolds).  Dokholyan is the top returner in this field after a 3rd place finish last indoor season.  This race should get very tactical as not many girls will be competing with fresh legs.
