NCHSAA 3A Boys Indoor State Championship Preview

Sprints

55m Dash

Cameron Council (Northwood) will come in as a favorite with FAT marks at 6.46 and 6.49 this indoor season, but will see strong competition in the final for sure.  Rashaed Whittington (Jacksonville)and Nadir Thompson (Southern Nash) both hold hand held mark at 6.44 and will look to prove those marks were no joke.  Thompson holds a FAT best of 6.58 this season.  Desmond Trogdon (Asheboro) comes in with the second fastest mark of the indoor season at 6.57.

300m Dash

Nadir Thompson (Southern Nash), Doug Dracon (Weddington) and Emerson Douds (Weddington) all have recently ran fast FAT 300s over the last few weeks in what should be an exciting 300m final section .  Thompson has the quickest mark at 35.09 with Dracon and Douds just behind at 35.21 and 35.25.  Ritter Deondre (Jacksonville) hasn't raced under FAT timing this season but has a hand head mark of 35.34 and should be a contender.  Top returner Edward Anthony (White Oak) comes in as the overall 15th seed and will have to throw down a strong performance in one of the earlier sections.

500m Dash

Jazire Notice (Jacksonville) enters with the top seed time of 1:05.30 and is the top returner from last indoor season at with a 4th place finish.  Teammmate Rashawn Massey will join him in the final section as the 3rd overall seed at 1:06.90.  Emerson Douds (Weddington) has had an excellent sophomore season and has run a 1:06.22.  He's run many impressive marks this indoor season and is looking to win the first of many individual titles he may earn over his high school career.  Nathan Johnson (Cuthbertson), Doug Dracon (Weddington) and Everett Stevens (Jacksonville) will also be in the final section

55m Hurdles

Freshman Jalen Houston (West Rowan) holds the fastest FAT mark this indoor season at 7.73.  His older brother Juwan Houston took 2nd in the event last season and he will look to claim the title that looks to have just evaded him family last indoor season.  But Gabriel Stainback (Concord) is not too far off Houston's mark with a 7.75 and will come into the meet with much more state meet experience.  Jacobi Lloyd (Jacksonville) has a fast hand held mark of 7.64 with no FAT marks on the season.  But last indoor season he clocked a 7.78 for 4th place at the indoor state meet, so you know he's going to be a serious threat.
