Senior Spotlight: John Crossley

The West Carteret senior, defending state champion in the 800, will be looking to add a 1000 title this Saturday.

I took this interview at the cross country state meet this past fall, and since then John Crossley has had somewhat of a low-key winter season.  That can be deceptive, however, when an athlete has returned to base training.  A 2:35 in the 1000 last week indicates that he is coming back into racing fitness now, and John should be in the driver's seat for the state title in that event.  For comparison, his best 1000 last winter was 2:37, and he went on to run 1:53 in the spring (and let's not forget about the fact that he dropped over a minute off his time between the 2011 and 2012 cross country state meets).  When you consider those improvements, it's a little easier to envision John meeting the very bold goal that he puts out there in this interview.  One other thing: since this interview, John has made his college decision, signing with East Carolina.
