Photo: awards ceremony at the 2007 WNC CC Carnival Great American isn't what it used to be, but that doesn't take anything away from the TC Roberson girls. The last two years they have competed in the Race of Champions while in Hoover, AL and done well. In 2006 they were 11th and Saturday they finished 6th.
Great American has changed quite a bit since it left North Carolina. The meet started here in Charlotte, spent a year in nearby Rock Hill, back to Charlotte, and then went to Cary. This is the 2nd year it has been held in Hoover, Alabama. Last year a number of NC teams and individuals made the trek to see what Hoover would be like . . . it was hot and miserable. Don't get me wrong, the course was unique and spectator friendly, but it wasn't North Carolina. (insert smile and wink here)
This week's Coaches Poll sees some big changes in all of the classifications. The Adidas Seahawk Invitational really shook things up this past weekend, especially among the 4A schools. The next poll in two weeks will have a new twist. Coaches will also be voting on a North Carolina top 15. So coaches, pay attention to all classes! Next weekend, a brand new feature to Milesplit.US & NCRunners.com should help shed some light on the top teams in the state. It is an overall team ranking based on athletes who have met the NCRunners.com standard. Speaking of the standard . . . tonight I went back through all the results up to now and and added in many new performances. The new NCRunners.com standards are 18:00 and 21:30. I'm trying to include more athletes and you will see how it pays off in the team scoring next week.
After the first weekend of XC meets, coaches have changed some of their votes. Enloe & Green Hope looked very good in their meets. Mooresville couldn't move up but looked outstanding at WNC. TC Roberson may be the girl's team to beat in NC this year. Owen . . . 2nd place at WNC, look out. South View is much improved, and the list goes on and on. Check out the newest installment of the NCRUNNERS.com Cross Country Coaches Poll.
