Robin Reynolds opened up a can of wow as she opened her 2009 Junior Olympics experience with a new all-conditions personal best of 23.37. There was a 2.8 wind helping her on the way, but what an opener! Reynolds though has been dominating USATF national meets since she was probably 8, so no surprise that she comes out with a big performance!
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Befitting a day that saw 1996 Olympic champion and American record holder Dan O'Brien as a guest starter, Gunnar Nixon of the Eastside Steppers broke an 11-year-old record in the intermediate boys' decathlon Wednesday in the top individual performance on day two of the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships at North Carolina A&T State University's Irwin Belk Track.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Ciarra Brewer, who finished seventh at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Italy earlier this month, smashed the youth national record in the intermediate girls' triple jump Thursday on day three of the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships at North Carolina State A&T University's Irwin Belk Track
There is nothing to do really but to shake your head in awe and know you're looking at something once in a generation. Freshman Robin Reynolds continues her onslaught of the USATF Junior Olympics. Following up her 23.37 qualifying time yesterday, she had her hands full with three events. Going on at the same time she had the long jump and 100 meter prelims. She took care of the prelims with the #1 qualifying time of 11.68 and then went back and won the long jump in 19-6.25. By lunch time she also knocked out the qualifying round of the 400 to advance to the finals as the #1 seed with a time of 52.60! Only Ebony Eutsey has gone faster this year and it places her #4 all-time in Florida! Dedric Dukes, Josh Edmonds, Brianna Frazier, Kamal Korosa, among others also had good days and advanced to the finals. In this article we have a full list of day four Florida performances for youth through young divisions.
Despite being a state away, the USATF National Junior Olympic T&F Championships has small contingent of Virginia high school athletes participating but several have already enjoyed All-American success prior to the final 2 day of events this weekend. Two national runners-up in the field events with Jasia Richardson (pictured left by John Herzog) of J.R. Tucker leaping to a personal best mark of 40'5" in the young women's triple jump, while Ashlen Veatch of Cave Spring placed second in the rarely contested hammer throw for intermediate girls with a throw of 148'6". Kevin Bennert of Woodberry Forest earned All-American honors winning the slower section of the 3K in the intermediate boys' division with a fourth place overall time of 9:03. Henrico's Stephanie Oleson vaulted herself to All-American status in the intermediate girls division with a succesful clearance of 10'6" to place third in the event. Isaiah Simmons of Woodbridge came up just short in the throws with two 7th place finishes in the young men's shot put and discus, but did achieve an all-time best performance of 165'1" in the discus throw. MileSplit US is providing plenty of video and photo coverage from the meet.
High school is the focus on this site. We venture into middle school and college on occassion, but seldom to never youth track. But a young lady from Miami forces us to do that today and her name is Daesha Rogers. She is the new national 800m bantam record holder with her time or 2:23.16 on day 5 up in North Carolina. Watch out for her in the (distant) future! Meanwhile back at the ranch... Robin Reynolds collected another gold at 200m going 23.84 into the wind. Complete recap of Floridians inside this article.

Vincent Brown (photo by John Olson) had to settle for narrow runner-up finishes to Jeffrey Artis of Western Branch twice this year for state titles in the hurdles, but now can conclude his high school career with a national title to his name. The recent graduate of South Lakes High School, Brown struck gold in the finals of the young men's 110 meter hurdles at the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships in Greensboro with a 14.00 clocking (-1.5 wind). Brown was the only national champion from Virginia in the meet. Interview with Vincent Brown - Results
