Kellam's Bobby Peavey (pictured right by John Herzog) will be one of three Virginians competing at the Millrose Games next weekend in New York City. He was estatic when learning of the news he had been selected albeit at a crazy late hour. "I had a feeling I might get invited after Montgomery, but it didn't hit me until my coach texted me at 3 AM that I was actually going to Milrose. It feels amazing." The senior Peavey earned his trip to New York based off two swift times posted this past month in the one mile race at the Montgomery Invitational and most recently in a 1600 meter race at the Eastern Challenge held in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. NCRunners is on site today at the Eastern HS Challenge. Races begin at 9:00 am with all of the 55 meter heats and 55mH heats. Also many of the field events will begin at the 9:00 hour. Chantilly's Wes Sun has been vaulting at new heights this season with clearances of 14'6", 14'7", and personal best 14'8" at the FIT Invitational in late December to pose as potentially the #1 challenger to AAA state outdoor champion Allen Kelly of King's Fork. Photo by Ted Plunkett The scarcity of indoor meets in North Carolina and entry standards for the Eastern Challenge at UNC leads to a ridiculous amount of bogus and false seed times as shown by Landstown sprint star Marlena Wesh being seeded 15th in the 55 meter dash behind many inferior athletes as well as Nike Indoor All-American Curtis Campbell of Grassfield potentially not going to run in the fast section of the 500 meter dash because of false seeds ahead of him. But it should be all settled on meet day as both Wesh and Campbell should be some of the top performers from Virginia this weekend in Chapel Hill. Read more...
The Eastern HS Challenge brings in some of the best year in and year out. If previous years tell us anything, look for some of the winners here to be National Champions in March. This weekend is the one and only indoor meet held in North Carolina and it's a big one. Teams from all over the state converge on Chapel Hill in order to get a feel for the track.
