Jacksonville girls win: At Wilmington, Jacksonville’s Kaitlyn Davis outlasted Sarah Hart of White Oak to come in first place and lead the Cardinals to victory.
Davis finished with a time of 20 minutes, 8 seconds. Hart was two seconds behind.
“It came right down to the very end,” said JHS head coach Tim Hood. “Kaitlyn was able to out kick Sarah.”
White Oak head coach Chris Mueller was impressed of both runners’ performances.
“They are wonderful for each other,” he said. “They are 2-2 against each other and they will see each other at least three more times.”
Erin Putnam was third for the Cardinals, followed by teammate Ryanna Henderson and the Vikings’ Rachel Johnston.
“The girls ran well,” said Hood. “We were a little disappointed after last week’s meet, but the girls bounced back and we ran well.
“Our top three have been strong all season.”
White Oak’s Andre Smith came in second in the boys race to spark the Vikings to second, behind Hoggard. Charles Wofford of Hoggard won the event with WOHS’ Tyler Marva coming in sixth.
“Our guy’s times were great,” said Mueller. “Hoggard is a class by themselves.”
Jacksonville will compete in the East Carolina Invitational Saturday while White Oak will take on the Cardinals Thursday.
