Coaches Information

Welcome to West Johnston High School and the 2012 NCHSAA 4A East Regional. To assist us in hosting this Championship meet, please read the following important information.
ARRIVAL
Bus Parking/Packet Pick up-Upon arriving at the school, please park buses directly behind school as directed. Coaches will report to the gate closest to the baseball field to pick up team packets. Inside the packets will be wristbands for all athletes entered in the meet as well as coaches. Athlete wristbands will be Green, the multicolor bands will be for coaches. Athletes can proceed inside the stadium gate behind the baseball field. Coaches should report to the auxiliary gymnasium in the school for the coaches meeting. NO ATHLETES SHOULD LEAVE THE FOOTBALL STADIUM! We will give wristbands for entered athletes, listed coaches, and relay alternates only. All spectators must enter the main gate only. If you have Athletes and coaches arriving late please plan to have a coach meet them at the gate with their wristbands.
Team Set up/ Tents -Teams can setup anywhere in the visiting bleachers, on the practice football field, or anywhere outside the fence of the track that is not roped off for a field event. The home bleachers should be kept cleared for spectators.
Coaches Meeting-Coaches will meet at 9:00 in the auxiliary gym for instructions and scratches.
FIELD EVENTS
Field events-begin at 10:00. See official sheet for assignment. All field event participants will check in at the event site on the FIRST call.
Implement/ Vaulter Weigh in- 9:00 am to 9:30 in the main storage building located directly beside the baseball complex
Field event order-as follows:
10:00 AM – Girls Long Jump (followed by Triple Jump) / Boys Long Jump (followed by Triple Jump) / Girls High Jump (followed by boys) / Boys Pole Vault (followed by Girls) / Boys Shot Put (followed by Girls) / Girls Discus (followed by Boys). The 2nd round of field events will start no earlier than 11:30.
Check-in/Check-out- Athletes that are involved in 2 events at the same time must check-in and check-out. The high jump and pole vault take priority over the other field events.
Starting heights-
Women’s High Jump: 4’ 6”Men’s High Jump: 5’ 8”
Women’s Pole Vault: 6’ 6”Men’s Pole Vault: 10’ 0”
RUNNING EVENTS
Schedule- 4x800 relay finals will begin at 10:30. Preliminaries will begin at 11:30. See the full meet schedule included in your packet.
Check in- The Check In Tent for all running events will be located in the 3rd turn behind the 100 meter starting line. All running event participants must check in at the clerking tent when the first call for their event is made. Athletes will receive their heat and lane assignments and hip numbers and be released. On the 2nd call, athletes should make their way back to the clerking area dressed for competition. They will be held in the clerking area for the final call where they will be given instructions, checked for uniforms, and lined up in proper running order. Marshals will escort the heats to the track. All relay participants must present their completed relay card to the clerks.
Rolling Schedule- please inform your athletes that the meet will be on a rolling schedule once the finals begin. They must listen to calls and check in at the proper time and location.
Championship blocks- Will be provided for all athletes
GENERAL INFORMATION
Rules—2012 NFHS rules will be followed.
Uniforms – Please make sure your athletes are aware of current uniform rules, especially those on relay teams.
Jewelry – No jewelry is allowed! This includes earrings, rings, tongue rings, studs, bracelets, rubber bracelets (i.e. Livestrong), and naval rings. It also includes hard hair pieces, bobbie pins, beads, or any item made of plastic, metal, or wood. Watches and medic alert bracelets are permissible.
Electronic devices- including headphones, iPods, MP3 players, cameras, video cameras, cell phones or any other electronics are not allowed in the infield or at the field event sites. Athletes will be warned once, and could be disqualified if the have to be told again. Also, no athlete should watch a video reproduction of their performance during the event. Please let them know the penalty for this is disqualification from the event!
Sportsmanship – All athletes and coaches are expected to show good sportsmanship. Competitors who engage in taunting, profanity, baton throwing, and/or refuse to follow the instructions of meet officials will be Disqualified from the event.
Medals/Awards – The top 3 in each event will be awarded medals as well as the top 2 teams at the conclusion of the meet. We will recognize the top 4 finishers ( State meet qualifiers) in each event right after the competition is finished in the center of the football field. Athletes will be presented their medals as soon as the results have been certified. Results will also be posted beside the upper concession stand.
Infield -Athletes and coaches will not be allowed in the infield if they are not competing in event taking place or working respectively. Please help monitor your students off of the infield!
Warm ups- Athletes can use the soccer field for warm-ups, stretching, and strides. The track will only be open for warm ups until 10 am.
Coaches hospitality- Will be located in the baseball concession and open throughout the meet for all coaches to enjoy who have a proper coaches wristbands.
Concessions- available throughout the day at the upper and lower level concession areas for spectators and participants.
Admission- spectator fee is $6. There will be no passes given out.
Inclement weather-Both the main and auxiliary gyms will be open in case of inclement weather for athletes and spectators.
Protests--Must be filed with the meet referee (John Buchholz) within 30 min of the posting of official results for an event. Please bring your 2012 rulebook, as no protest will be heard with citing the specific rule in question on the form provided in your coaches’ packet. Please see Page 16 of rulebook.
Water- Will be provided on the track as well as field event sites. Please have your athletes assist in cleaning up trash in the track complex.
Coaches Boxes- will be marked for all the field events.
Athletic Trainer- there will be a tent set up right outside the gate near the finish line area where our athletic trainer will be stationed for your athletes needs during the meet.
