Hard training, watching video of his races, and some soul-searching and personal changes - those, along with talent, got the Cherryville senior to this point.
What more can I say about this young man that hasn't already been spoken by his performances and isn't covered in this interview? He's a testament to both hard work and talent, a perfect example of a boy that had to force himself to mature in order to achieve his goals. Of course, every young athlete can't be Trent Friday, but every young athlete can look at himself/herself, identify the weak points, and work to make them stronger. Sometimes I wonder how many other elite athletes fall by the wayside, largely unknown, because lack of maturity or other personal issues derail them before they even have a chance to show their potential. I've known a few of them, as have most coaches, but I bet there are many others that go completely under the radar. I can't tell you how happy I am that Trent Friday is not one of them!
