
Cary Academy takes the baton in 6th at the Penn Relays DMR Championships

We're entering the home stretch of the North Carolina outdoor track & field season and action is reaching a fever pitch across the state. Today, we're going to take a look at some of the state's top performers over the past week of competition.

Sprint Events - Top Performers
Roger Patterson, Union Pines - Patterson ran a 10.41 to win the Carolina Conference Championships, setting a new personal best and sliding up to NC #4. It's his second win of the season and a big step forward as he continues to drop time, at the right time.
Tyler Adams, Hillside - Adams picked up another win in the 400m at the TRAC Championships, running 47.88 to move into NC #8. With three wins across four races, he's been one of the more consistent quarter-milers in the state and is amassing plenty of momentum entering the most important two weeks of the season.
London Atkinson, Clayton - Atkinson grabbed her second win of the season in the 100m dash, running 11.66 at the Greater Neuse River Conference Championships. She now sits at 7th in the state in the event, and also added a 3rd-place finish in the 200m for good measure.
Samone Arrington, Southern School of Energy & Sustainability - Arrington had a breakout performance in the 100m hurdles, running 13.88 to win the TRAC Championships and move into the 2nd-ranked position in the state. She's now just 0.02 off the state lead after the massive personal best.

Field Events - Top Performers
Randolph Ross, South Garner - Ross continues to be one of the most consistent high jumpers in the state, finishing 2nd in all six of his competitions this season. He cleared 6-10 recently to move into 4th in the state rankings and will be searching for a spot next to his teammate, Maddox Krotzer, on the podium in two weeks.
Promise Lovelace, Statesville - Lovelace threw a new PR of 161-10 to win the North Piedmont Conference title, and continues to hold onto the state lead in the discus. She's also undefeated in the shot put with 10 wins, dominating both throwing events for the first two months of the season.
Lily Stough, Watauga - Stough stayed hot in the triple jump, winning her sixth straight competition and capturing the #2 mark in the state. She also picked up a win in the 400m dash, showing strong versatility in the latter portion of the outdoor season.
Distance Events - Top Performers
George Lawson, Forsyth Country Day - Lawson remains undefeated in the 800m, most recently running 1:54 to win at the CCDS Last Chance Classic and move to 14th in the state. The Wake Forest commit continues to gain momentum heading into the postseason.
Cary Academy Boys DMR - Cary Academy ran 10:02 at the Penn Relays to move to NC #3 all-time, finishing 6th in a loaded field. With splits of 3:06, 51, 1:56, and 4:07, the team of Finn Miller, Joey Grabek, Miles Cash, and Kavi Gibson showed serious strength across all four legs.
Georgy Helmers, E.E. Smith - Helmers made the most of her season debut in the 3,200m, running 10:21 at the Dogwood Track Classic to move to NC #7. The Furman commit looks to be headed in the right direction as we approach the postseason.
