Cuthbertson girls won their 5th straight, and 7th in the last 8, team title in the Friday Night Lights XC Invitational Championship race scoring 105 points and posting a 18:55 1-5 team average.
The Cavaliers came into the event in contention to win yet another FNL team title, but would have competition from rival Marvin Ridge as well as many rising programs looking to challenge.
From the gun they were out in good position sitting 60 points ahead of the field with 93 at the Mile lead by star sophomore Colby McCollum in 7th out in 5:28. Senior Josie Schihl was just behind in 12th at 5:44 followed by Cameron Hinson, Julia D'Errico and Cecila Taft in 20th, 22nd and 32nd respectively.
Marvin Ridge would sit in 2nd with 154 points ahead of Watauga, Green Level, Hoggard, East Chapel Hill and Holly Springs who were all in the mix.
The gap would shrink slightly to 39 points over the next mile as Cuthbertson led 102 to 142 over Marvin Ridge. Green Level moved up to 3rd with 207 points with Hoggard and Watauga making up the top 5 with 236 and 265 points.
Cuthbertson would be able to hold onto their position across their top 5 over the final 1.1 Miles of the race to score 105 points and win by 49 points over Marvin Ridge.
McCollum proved the breakout on the track was carrying over to cross country running 17:42 and placing 5th overall. Schihl would had a strong day and take 15th in 18:42 to 13 points with D"Errico finishing in 19:15, Hinson 19:25 and Taft 19:31 for 29th, 33rd and 39th overall. They'd average 18:55 across their top 5 girls.
Marvin would come in with a 19:12 average scoring 154 points. Green Level would hold off Hoggard for 3rd in a tight race in 204 points to 205. Holly Springs girls would move ahead of Watauga in a race for fifth behind a strong last mile scoring 243 points to Watauga's 301 points.
