Cummings girls scored 80 points on Friday night to win the programs 30th ever NCHSAA Track State Championship.  

The Cavaliers were led by D'Anna Cotton who won the Triple Jump in 40-9, Long Jump in 18-10, High Jump in 5-6 and finished runner-up in the 55m Hurdles running 8.14.  Cotton was awarded NCHSAA 1A/2A Meet MVP.  The junior now has 12 NCHSAA Individual State titles to her name with three seasons to go.

Cummings would sweep both the Long and Triple Jump with Diamond Moore finishing runner-up in both with jumps of 18-8.75 and 35-7.5.  Brooke Packingham would take third in both jumps with a mark of 17-2 in the Long Jump and 34-11.5 in the Triple Jump.  Packingham would also take third in the 55m Hurdles running 8.26 with Moore taking 7th running 8.79.

Their 4x200m Relay would also take 3rd overall running 1:50.69.  

Cummings only had 6 girls total on their Indoor Track team and scored 80 points to hold off 1A powerhouse and defending champions Swain County who scored 74.5 points to finish as runners-up.  In 2024 Swain would beat Cummings 74-72.

Cummings had little room for error battling against a larger and deeper program in Swain County who excels in the distance events, shot put, pole vault and relays.  In the Long and Triple Jump the Cummings girls were able to get marks in the prelims that were good enough to hold their 1-2-3 finish.
