Parkland 4x100m Breaks North Carolina State Record In 40.66

Last year Mallard Creek set the North Carolina 4x100m State Record as well as the NCHSAA All-Class State Record in the 4x100m running 40.87.  Mallard Creek came in as the top ranked team just ahead of Parkland who had season bests from different regionals of 41.03 and 41.07 respectively.

Earlier in the event Mallard Creek had an epic come from behind victory in the 4x200m to slightly edge Parkland running 1:24.81 despite a bad second handoff which set them back.  Parkland took 2nd in 1:25.23.  Mallard Creek was without Christian Dixon it seems who scratched from the 100m Prelims.

Despite missing a top leg, it seemed like Mallard Creek had the momentum in this sprint relay rivalry heading into the 4x100m.

Early through the event Parkland held a slight lead over the field as they got the stick to second leg Antwan Hughes Jr.  He'd be able to extend the lead slightly down the backstretch and they'd hold a slight lead through the third leg going into the final exchange, but 4 or 5 teams were in striking distance including Cleveland, Hickory Ridge, Reagan and Mallard Creek who was closing hard once again.  Parkland's anchor leg Micah Walker was able to hold off Tyson Williams of Mallard Creek through the line as both programs would break the North Carolina 4x100m State Record!

Parkland's time was 40.66 with Mallard Creek in at 40.72.  Reagan would hold off Cleveland and Hickory Ridge for third running 41.09, 41.15 and 41.16 respectively.  

This was easily the best 4x100m race in North Carolina history!  NC#1, NC#2, NC#5, NC#6 and NC#7 All-Time came in the fast heat at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships!
