Hough's Tim Brown Runs NC No. 2 All-Time 500m At VA Showcase

Hough senior Tim Brown has emerged fully on the national scene officially after his runner-up finish at the VA Showcase in the Invitational 500m running a NC No. 2 All-Time mark of 1:02.69.  This mark is second to Chantz Sawyers State Record of 1:02.10 which he set in 2017.  Sawyers would go on to run the North Carolina Outdoor 400m State Record which still stands today as well of 46.31 the following outdoor season.

Brown finished as runner-up to Bullis star sophomore Quincy Wilson who won in US No. 2 All-Time fashion just missing the Meet and National Record of 1:01.25 held by Will Sumner by .02 seconds.  Brown's mark is good for US No. 12 All-Time per the MileSplit Database.

As a junior indoors Brown took 5th at the NCHSAA 4A Indoor State Championships running 1:05.44.  Outdoors he ran the 400m and 800m and ran through the summer AAU season and got his times down to PR at AAU Junior Olympics to run 48.83 for an open 400m and 1:53.25 winning the AAU National Championship.

He's shown great range outside of just the 500m running 34.47 for the open 300m as well as 2:33 for the 1000m both at Polar Bear meets.

Though Brown is going to be in contention throughout the rest of the year to break the 500m state record, the NCHSAA 4A 500m Final is going to be as competitive as one could ask for.  Last years NCHSAA 4A Indoor State Champion fast heat winner, but overall runner-up Max DeAngelo (Millbrook) was just behind Brown in the VA Showcase fast heat running 1:03.62.  CJ Martin (Clayton) ran 1:03.78. also at the VA Showcase to place 3rd overall in NC No. 8 All-Time fashion and Jamel Brown (Southwest Guilford) ran 1:04.46 last week as well.

Nonetheless, this will be one of the most exciting races of the day for the NCHSAA State Championships on a flat track where it's hard to get positioning if you aren't leading at the break.

Brown needs to be a name to watch for the rest of the year from 400m-1000m and could challenge New Bern's Karjuan Williams to be the best 400m/800m combo guy in state history.  It's somewhat rare to see on the high school stage, but Williams ran 47.27 and 1:49.97 in 2006.
