How Each NCHSAA Team State Champion Got The Job Done


NCHSAA 1A Girls - Swain County

Swain County was challenged by Albemarle, but ultimately they ran away with the team title 100-83. They scored huge in the pole vault, as Amelia Rogers, Hannah Wingate, and Alden Thomas went 1-3-4, all earning all-state honors. Rogers also placed 5th in high jump, and teammate Gracie Sutton was runner-up. In total, Swain managed to score 33 points in the jumps. The other field eventer, Faith Woodard, was 4th in the shot put. 

They started the day on the track with a huge win in the 4x800m. From there, they just dominated the distance events. Arizona Blankenship picked up victories in the 1,600m and 3,200m, on top of finishing runner-up in the 800m. Annie Lewis and Amaya Hicks went 3-5 in the 800m, as well. Lewis added 4th place finishes in the 1,600m and 3,200m. 

The icing on the cake was a 5th place performance from Melani Linton in the 300m hurdles.
