We haven't seen Jacob Laney (Porter Ridge) since the Friday Night Lights Cross Country Festival in early September.
However, on a Tuesday night in Winston-Salem, the defending indoor 1,600m state champion made his long awaited return after a four month hiatus.
He let the Southern Carolina and Sandhills Athletic Conferences know exactly who he was, and that is one of the best runners we have in North Carolina currently.
Laney took the win in the 1,600m in 4:16.78, good for NC No. 2, before doubling back in the 1,000m just minutes later. He ran a personal best and NC No. 4 time of 2:34.08.
The UNC signee and defending outdoor 1,600m/3,200m champion is looking as strong as ever. After taking some time to really get healthy, the sky is now the limit for Laney, who has to be feeling ecstatic after last night's performances.
Laney was runner-up at the 2021 NCHSAA 4A cross country state championship, as well.
