Hansen and Dalton Place Top 12 at Champs XC Nationals

The cross country season has finally closed for everyone after the completion of the Champs XC Nationals this weekend in San Diego, California. Two of North Carolina's best, Rocky Hansen (Christ School) and Mary Bonner Dalton (Myers Park) have been waiting for this moment for months, if not years.

Hansen, the Champs South champion, was sitting in 2nd for most of the race, tailing Kole Mathison (Carmel, IN). It was a hard fought effort from Hansen, as he gave everything he had to the finish. He ended up placing 11th in the nationally elite field, running 15:22.

In the girls' race, Mary Bonner Dalton found herself in the main chase pack and used that to her advantage. Without having to worry about time or pace, Dalton was able to just hang with the field and race. And race she did.

As the giant cluster started to charge the finish line, Dalton made her final, and most impressive move of the day. She hung on for 12th place overall, and a stellar mark of 17:45.

Shoutout to two of #TeamNC's best for their hard work all season long. This community is proud of you and your efforts!
