Is the meet record of 8:58.37 from the 2013 running of Dash For Doobie going down this weekend? I think so. I think the bigger question is, how many break the record and go under 9:00? It's going to be a crisp Saturday night in Pfafftown which should make for some elite racing.
Charlie Ortmans - The Potomac School, Virginia
Ortmans has been a beast in Virginia this season. The Harvard commit ran 14:40.00 to win the MileStat.com XC Invitational and won the VISAA DI Cross Country State Championship. Last spring he ran 9:04.61 for the 3,200m at Music City Track Carnival. He is the defending VISAA Indoor 3,200m state champion. He ran 9:08.31 for the event indoors. He also holds a personal best in the 1,600m of 4:11.25 from the Carolina Distance Carnival.
Jake Liebert - Wando, South Carolina
Liebert is fresh off capturing his second SCHSL AAAAA State Championship, this time in 15:13.92. He ran a personal best of 14:54.60 at The Southern Showcase. He is the defending SCHSL State AAAAA Outdoor 3,200m state champion. He went on to place 10th at RunningLane, where he ran a personal best of 9:03.76. He holds a 1,600m personal best of 4:18.76.
Mason Haynes - Nation Ford, South Carolina
Haynes, a sophomore, was runner-up to Liebert at the SCHSL AAAAA State Championship. His personal best of 14:55.00 came from a victorious outing at the Warrior XC Invitational. He was 3rd place in the 3,200m last spring at the SCHSL State AAAA Championship, where he ran a personal best of 9:29.45.
Brendan Gomez - Wando, South Carolina
Big South Carolina rivalries cross the border into North Carolina. Gomez was 3rd at the SCHSL AAAAA State Championship behind Liebert and Haynes. He ran 15:04.45 at The Southern Showcase, where he took 6th place. Last spring, he ran 9:24.70 for the 3,200m and went on to finish runner-up at the state championship. He holds a 1,600m personal best of 4:28.90.
Krister Sjoblad - Athens Drive
The NC State commit won the NCHSAA 4A East Regional title in 15:28.01. His personal best of 15:07.10, however, came from the adidas XC Challenge, where he took 5th in the championship field. On the track last spring, he took 3rd at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship in the 3,200m where he ran a personal best of 9:19.33. He also holds a 1-mile personal best of 4:27.50.
Reeves was runner-up at the NCISAA 4A State XC Championship. He ran a personal best of 15:03.23 at the ASICS Invitational in Georgia. Last spring, Reeves clocked 1:52.83 for the 800m and 4:11.32 for the 1-mile run. His 3,200m best comes from the last running of Dash For Doobie, where Reeves ran 9:26.19. He was runner-up in both the 1,600m and 3,200m at the NCISAA DI Outdoor State Championship.
Knox Young - Greenville, South Carolina
Young recently captured the SCHSL AAAA State Championship after finishing runner-up in 2021. He ran a personal best of 15:09.74 to win the Ed Boehmke Greenville County Championships. He is the defending SCHSL AAAA State 800m and 1,600m Champion. He has bests in the event of 1:55.77 and 4:08.95. He only ran three 3,200m's since the 2021 cross country season, and has a personal best of 9:30.28.
The newest Ole Miss commit is ready to carry the momentum into the indoor season after winning the NCHSAA 4A State XC Championship. Gilbertson ran a personal best of 15:23.50 to win the NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional. Last spring, he placed 4th in the 800m and 8th in the 1,600m at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship. During the indoor season, he was runner-up in the 1,600m and 6th in the 1,000m at the state championship. His 1,600m personal best of 4:17.93 comes from the indoor state meet. His 3,200m best of 9:20.62 came from the 2021 Dash For Doobie.
Townshend, another Ole Miss commit, is looking to get the upper-hand on his future teammate this weekend after finishing runner-up at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship. He is the defending NCHSAA 4A 1,600m Outdoor State Champion and holds a personal best of 4:08.30 in the event. He clocked 9:05.51 for the 3,200m last spring as well. During the 2021-22 indoor season, he was 3rd in the 1,600m and 4th in the 1,000m at the state meet.
Ty Jones - Riverside, South Carolina
Jones was 3rd at the SCHSL AAAA State Championship and holds a cross country personal best of 15:17.98. He was 8th in the 1,600m at the SCHSL State AAAAA last spring. He has a personal best in the event of 4:26.02. He also ran 9:35.70 for the 3,200m at the All American Track Classic.
Jake Wadas - Wade Hampton, South Carolina
Another South Carolina rivalry comes to North Carolina, as Wadas was 2nd place at the SCHSL AAAA State Championship, behind Young and ahead of Jones. He clocked a personal best of 15:18.74 at the ASICS Invitational. He placed 9th in the 1-mile run at RunningLane Track Championships running a personal best of 4:21.95. He also was 3rd at the SCHSL AAAAA State Meet in the 1,600m. To top it off, he holds a 9:22.66 personal best in the 3,200m.
Tyler Surface - North Raleigh Christian Academy
Surface ran a personal best of 15:19.40 at the adidas XC Challenge to take 11th place. He has personal bests on the track of 4:29.50 (1-mile) and 9:27.54 (3,200m).
Cory Chambers - Milton, Georgia
Chambers finished 4th at the GHSA 7A State Cross Country Championship. He ran a personal best of 15:23.47 at ASICS Invitational. On the track in the spring, he was 9th in the 3,200m and 11th in the 1,600m at the GHSA State 7A Championship. That day he ran a personal best of 4:23.99 in the 1,600m. He went on to run 9:36.41 in the 3,200m at RunningLane.
Hansen took 3rd at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship and led Green Hope to the title. A week prior, he was runner-up at the NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional, where he ran a personal best of 15:25.97. On the track, he was 7th during outdoor season and 9th during indoor season in the 3,200m at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships. His 3,200m best of 9:30.68 came from a victorious NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional run. He also holds a 1,600m personal best of 4:24.98.
Wyatt Townsend - Chiles, Florida
The William & Mary commit has a 5,000m personal best of 15:26.70 from the FSU Invitational. Last spring at FSU Relays, Townsend ran a personal best of 9:22.54 in the 3,200m. He also ran 4:22.05 for the 1-mile run at the Mobile Challenge of Champions.
TJ Hansen - Freeland, Michigan
Hansen was 5th at the MHSAA LP Division 2 Finals and holds a personal best of 15:31.11 from the TVC Overall Championships. He was 5th in the 3,200m at the MHSAA LP Division 2 Finals last spring where he ran a personal best of 9:21.26. He also holds a 1-mile personal best of 4:29.74.
Evans, a NC State commit, was 6th at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship. He took 3rd at the NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional where he ran a personal best of 15:26.50. He has a personal best of 4:19.11 in the 1,600m and 1:57.40 in the 800m. He was 6th in the 1,600m at the NCHSAA 4A Outdoor State Championship.
Ashton Tolson - C. Milton Wright, Maryland
Tolson was the MPSSAA 3A North Regional champion and went on to place 12th at the Maryland State Championships. He won the UCBAS Championship in a personal best of 15:27.37. He was runner-up last spring in the 3,200m at the Maryland State Championship, where he ran a best of 9:29.39. He also clocked 4:22.54 in the 1,600m during the outdoor season.
Bork was 12th at the OHSAA DI State Championship. He won the Strongsville Fleet Feet XC Invitational in a personal best of 15:28.05. He has a 1,600m personal best of 4:18.65 from the OHSAA D1 Region 2 Championship. He has a 3,200m lifetime best of 9:38.98 from the 2021 Dash For Doobie.
Valyo was 7th at the NCHSAA 4A State XC Championship. His personal best of 15:28.00 comes from the adidas XC Challenge. During the 2022 outdoor season, Valyo was 11th in the 1,600m at the state meet, and ran a personal best of 4:22.70 at regionals. During the 2021 outdoor season, he placed 5th in the 3,200m at the state championship, running a personal best of 9:33.27.
Hayden Hauser - Coulgan, Virginia
Hauser was 4th at the VHSL Class 6 State XC Championship. A week prior, he ran a personal best of 15:29.00 to win the 6B Region Championship. He was 6th at the 2022 VHSL Outdoor Class 6 Championship in the 3,200m. He holds a personal best in the event of 9:26.14.
Rouse ran a personal best of 15:17.70 at adidas XC Challenge where he took 9th place. He went on to place 4th at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship. He has a personal best of 4:25.90 for the 1,600m and 9:42.43 for the 3,200m.
Raghav Gopalakrishnan - Ardrey Kell
He was 5th at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship and won the NCHSAA 4A West Regional. Gopalakrishnan was 4th at the NCHSAA 4A Outdoor State Championship in the 3,200m where he ran a personal best of 9:19.85. He also clocked 4:27.70 for the 1-mile run last spring.
Venable was 8th at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship and ran his personal best of 15:30.60 at adidas XC Challenge. On the track last spring he was 5th in the 1,600m a the state championship and ran a 3,200m personal best of 9:48.56.
The NCHSAA 3A State Champion is ready to attack the track. He was runner-up at the 2022 NCHSAA 3A Outdoor State Championship in the 3,200m and has a best of 9:34.44 in the event.
