Trevin Moyer - Mountain Island Charter
Moyer was a force all season long for Mountain Island Charter. The Arizona State signee won the 100m, 200m, and 400m in dominating fashion. He ran a personal best and NCHSAA 1A State Meet Record of 46.97 in the 400m. Moyer was undefeated on the track in 2022, winning five 100m races, three 200m, and three 400m. He adds these three state titles to his two from indoor season.
Lauren Tolbert - Highland Tech
Tolbert was going for as many wins as she could on Saturday The Duke signee lined up for the 100m, 200m and 800m. Tolbert was victorious in all three events, including a 2:09.37 solo effort in the 800m. Tolbert proved she has arguably the most range in state history, as she is a 100m state champion, and cross country state champion from 2020.
Jonathan Paylor - Cummings
Although football may be the long term goal for Paylor, he certainly has a future in track and field. A nearly flawless season capped off with victories in the 100m, 200m, and 400m. His only personal best of the day came in the 400, where he clocked 49.24, dipping under 50.00 for the 2nd time this season.
Joyasia Smith - R-S Central
Smith was coming off a strong weekend at NCHSAA 2A West, where she won the 100m and 200m, while being apart of the winning 4x100m and 4x200m relays. She proved those 100m and 200m wins were no fluke as she ran away with the 100m and 200m state titles. She successfully defended her 2021 outdoor state title in the 200m.
Isaiah Monroe - Dudley
The NC A&T signee felt at home during the NCHSAA 3A state championship, and showed it by taking home three individual victories. He ran away with the 100m, 200m, and 400m titles. All season long Monroe has been a force, finishing either first or second in every single race this outdoor season.
Sanu Jallow - West Mecklenburg
Jallow wanted to put on a show for the crowd, and that is exactly what she did. The Texas A&M signee went out on top in the 200m and 400m, claiming the wins in both of the events. She took runner-up in the 100m, as well. She is not finished this season by any means, as she is chasing that North Carolina 800m state record during nationals season.
Terrell Robinson Jr. - Mount Tabor
The recent St. Augustine commit wanted to leave everything on the track for his final high school race for Mount Tabor. The wind was able to die down for the 100m finals, so Robinson Jr. was able to run a wind-legal personal best of 10.31 to secure the win. He was back for the 200m later that afternoon and secured his second individual victory of the day. He was also apart of the Mount Tabor 3rd place 4x200m relay.
Shawnti Jackson - Wakefield
All eyes were on Jackson Saturday, as the superstar was going for the sprint triple. After battling injury for most of the regular season, it was great to see Jackson back in action. The wind was not in the favor of the athletes, but it made no difference for Jackson. She took home the 100m to start her day. After some down time she was back for a victorious 400m run, personal best, and NC No. 2 all-time 52.32. She returned for the 200m and clocked a 23.19 seasonal best for the win. She finished her day with a come-from-behind win as the anchor leg of Wakefield's 4x400m relay team.
