We were back at NC A&T for the NCHSAA State Championship this weekend. In the 3A classification, the girls of West Henderson and the boys of Dudley left no question as to who the best teams were. However, they each took different routes to get there.

Dudley won the boys' title with 80 points, 28.5 points ahead of 2nd place Croatan. Meanwhile, the West Henderson girls were in a battle until the end, edging Dudley's girls 49-46.

Isaiah Monroe was named 3A MVP, and there was no doubt about it. The senior won the 100m, 200m, and 400m, while anchoring the winning 4x400m team. Monroe scored 30 points individually.

The deciding factor was Breanna Budzinski's 3,200m performance. With West Henderson and Dudley not yielding any 4x400m teams, this was the final opportunity for either team to score. She clocked 11:41, good for 4th place, an all-stat nod, and 5 crucial points that put West Henderson into the lead.
