Mountain Island Charter School captured the 2020 NCHSAA 1A Outdoor Track and Field team state championship, but injuries cost then-junior Trevin Moyer the opportunity to compete with his squad. Moyer is a talented athlete on-and-off the track. Moyer helped Mountain Island secure a 9-1 record during the football season, accumulating over 800 all-purpose yards for the Raptors.
Moyer opened his indoor season just over a week ago at the Gamecock Indoor Challenge where he took home the victory in the 60m dash, clocking 6.73. It was an impressive mark for his first race since June.
Moyer competed in the 55m dash and the invitational 300m dash at the VA Showcase this weekend.
He cruised to a 6.46 time in the prelims on Friday, finishing 7th overall and qualified for the finals the following day.
Just a few hours later, Moyer was back on the track chasing history in the 300m. Lined up next to some of the best in the country Moyer had nothing to lose.
All-Time North Carolina 300m Rankings
The two top times in North Carolina history in the 300m both came at previous VA Showcases: Randolph Ross' 33.80 in 2019 and Cameron Rose's 32.84 in 2020.
Moyer, in lane four, had to get out quickly to avoid losing a step on the leaders. He was on the tail of Justin Braun, and Jayson Ward as the three came charging around the 200m banked track. Moyer kept charging on and finished 3rd, just .06 off 2nd place. His time of 33.79 is the 2nd fastest time in North Carolina history, just ahead of 2020 Olympian and NCAA Champion Randolph Ross.
With just under a month until the NCHSAA Indoor State Championship, Moyer and his Mountain Island Charter squad are ready to take home another team title.
