Dawson Reeves Runs NC Freshman Record Mile at Music City

The records keep falling this season! Christ School's Dawson Reeves entered this weekend with the NC No. 3 all-time freshman 1600m with his 4:23 at the NCRunners Twilight. This weekend in Tennessee, Reeves took to an elite field to make himself the best freshman in NC history.

Reeves ran a pretty even opening half mile, clocking 1:04 and 1:05 on his first two laps to bring him to 2:10. Reeves slowed a little bit on the third lap, running 1:07 for the lap and dropping one spot. When that bell lap hit, however, Reeves dropped the hammer. He flew around the track for the final time closing in 1:04, the third fastest final lap in the whole race! He crossed the line in 4:21.55, good for 8th place in his heat and 11th overall! Reeves moved up four spots on the final lap showing his strength and endurance.

The previous mile record was 4:26 held by Haywood Ferguson (South Mecklenburg) from 2018 and the previous 1600m record was 4:21.40 held by Phillip Hall (Terry Sanford/South View) from 2012.
