Murphy Smith (Ardrey Kell) made the trip up to VA this weekend to join an elite field at the VA Elite XC Invitational. A week after a runner-up performance at the NCRunners Elite Invitational, Smith came into this field locked and loaded. Smith has had a great start to his senior campaign having run 15:47, 15:31, and 15:46 so far this season. With a fast downhill start, much like at WakeMed, Smith jumped out to an early lead and tried to hold on as long as he could, which was good enough for a big time personal best of 15:19 and a runner-up finish to Jake Gelfand (Severna Park, MD).
