A year ago as a 7th grader Jamel Brown ran a 2:00 800m at the AAU Junior Olympic Games where he took 2nd overall. Yesterday he was able to improve on that mark breaking the 2 minute barrier placing 3rd in the Donna Davis 800m in 1:58.82.
The race was competitive from start to finish as Alex Tillock (IL) was able to pull away from Brown, Dillon Leacock, Viktor Idhammar and hold off a late charge from Camren Stamp who would all cross the line in 1:58.
Brown's mark is the fastest 800m mark from a North Carolina middle schooler and the first under 2:00. All-American Project teammate Christien Stamp will also crack the top 10 on that list from this event running an impressive 2:04.79.
