North Lincoln Star Jason Thomson Commits To UNC

One of the states top distance runners Jason Thomson has announced his commitment to UNC Chapel Hill!

Thomson has won three NCHSAA Individual State Championships in the 1600m, two indoors for 1A/2A and one outdoors for 2A.  He was also the NCHSAA 2A Cross Country Runner-Up last year.  He's been a key piece of North Lincoln's State Championship cross teams in 2017 and 2018.

He holds PRs of 1:57.05 for the 800m, 4:16.09 for 1600m, 9:26 for the 3200m and 15:19 in cross country.

Thomson says he had narrowed his search down to UNC, NC State and Villanova before ultimately deciding on UNC.

"I had it narrowed down to NC State, Chapel Hill and Villanova. It was a tough decision and I have the utmost respect for all three programs/coaches. After talking to the coaches at Chapel Hill, I knew I wanted to be apart of starting something great. I believe Carolina is headed in the right direction and will be competing for national titles in the next few years. When I started the recruiting process I told Jerry that I wanted to go somewhere where I was wanted and could make an impact. I knew it was the right place for me when I looked at all the benefits: a great university, phenomenal coaching staff, and a great program. I'm excited to be able to represent UNC over the next four years."

Thomson is currently the top-ranked athlete in the NCHSAA 2A.  He is the number two returner behind defending champion Zach Hughes (First Flight).  His North Lincoln team will also battle with First Flight to make it three straight NCHSAA 2A team titles.
