Broughton was led by a strong 1-2-3 from Jack Rooney, John Malach and freshman Dylan Core who ran 15:05, 15:09 and 15:17.

The course is USATF certified and was measured at 5000m.  Similar to some courses we see in North Carolina it's not a challenging course and there were perfect conditions on Saturday.

According to TullyRunners the course is graded around 25 second faster than WakeMed.  Using their Speed Ratings of the two meets we configured how they would have faired in the Race Of Champions.

Dylan Core15:1715:42174
Landon Soroka15:5716:20161
Cooper Thompson16:1716:41154

This would have scored Broughton at around 9th place at Great American with 380 points using these metrics.  Green Hope and Panther Creek scored 472 and 485 points respectively.

So yes, the marks from Asics are certainly fast, but that doesn't diminish the overall performance Broughton had on Saturday.  The team was 6th overall at adidas a few weeks ago, but even at the time they had an off day as a team from their 4-7 runners.

Adding in freshman Dylan Core having the potential to be top 10 in 4A as the teams third man is major for Broughton.  He's also one of the top freshman the states ever seen comparable to last years stud freshman Nate Jaster (Weddington, now at American Fork, UT) who ran 15:47 at WakeMed and was 5th at 3A states.

We'll see the Capitals back in action this weekend against a good NCRunners Elite field.
