After an outstanding performance by both the Christ School and Providence Day boys the team scores reflected in a Christ School 8 point win 150.50 to 142.50. But the final result in determining the team champions is still up in the air.

Over the summer of 2018 the NCISAA Coaches voted on a new rule. Previously teams could enter more than 3 athletes per event, and they'd be accepted as long as they were in the top 24 athletes. However, if you placed more than 3 in the top 8 the those athletes would not be able to score. You could only score your top three finishers in each event.
This year would be the first year that more than three athletes on a team could score in an event.
Friday night during the 3200m Providence Day placed 5 boys in the top 8 going 1-2-5-7-8 in the event. After this, some NCISAA Division I Coaches allegedly were not aware of the new rule being in place.

Though the new rule was voted on and passed by the coaches association, the NCISAA State Championship website stating the rules for the 2019 Outdoor Championships were never updated. The rules stated on the NCISAA Website are stated below.
The Games Committee voted that they would revert back to the old scoring rules for the meet which would take three points away from Providence Day, and add two points to Christ School and one point to Charlotte Latin.
Later in the meet Providence Day again would score a fourth athlete in the 1600m with a 1-4-6-7 finish in the event. So Providence Day would lose 2 points, Cannon School would gain one point and Christ School would gain one point.

So of course, the difference between Christ School and Providence Day at the end of the meet would be 8 points. If you revert back the 5 point swing between the two schools in the 3200m and 3 point swing between them in the 1600m the two teams would tie as team champions.
With schools making entries with different thoughts to strategy in maximizing team points it would certainly change the way they entered athletes in events for the meet.
Currently the NCISAA Division I State Championships are scored under the old rules where only three athletes per team can score in an event. The NCISAA Division II and NCISAA Division IIIState Championships are scored using the newly voted on rules that more than three athletes per team can score in an event. For example, Carolina Day girls scored 4 in the 3200m in Division II. The only other occurrence of this looking through results was Providence Day girls scoring four in the Long Jump. Neither of these impacted the NCISAA Team Scores.

Currently the NCISAA Division I State Championships are in a 48 hour protest period. The NCISAA is investigating this and working on a resolution in scoring and crowning a NCISAA Division I Team Champion.
Christ School were crowned defending NCISAA Division I State Champions at the meet, and will have at least a share of the team title depending the NCISAA's decision.
One thing for certain is that both Christ School and Providence Day had an incredible outing a the NCISAA Division I State Championships over the weekend.
We'll update this story as the NCISAA finds a resolution to the protested results.
