Alysia Johnson Goes Off Running 53.71 At Big Eight Champs

Alysia Johnson (Hillside) had a huge day in the 400m at the Big Eight Conference Championships today.  Johnson had only raced once outdoors so far this outdoor season at the Durham County Championships and she ran 24.96 and 55.01in rainy conditions.  

Today at the Big Eight Championships Johnson set a new 400m PR running 53.71.  Johnson ran 53.86 at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.  Johnson missed the majority of her sophomore season due to multiple hamstring injuries.  

Johnson's time is good for a new NC No. 1 and US No. 3 mark in the 400m.

This makes only the second time in Johnson's career that she's dipped under the 54 second mark.  It also improved on her current NC#7 All-Time Outdoor 400m mark by .15 seconds.  

Johnson also won the 200m in 24.17 good for NC No. 4 this outdoor season.  

Johnson also ran on Hillside's 4x200m and 4x400m relays that were crowned Big Eight Champions.  Hillside won the girl's team title by 20 points over Chapel Hill.
