Team Scores
Cuthbertson will be hard to catch, as they seemingly have multiple scorers in every event. Their 101.16 projected points is astounding, but almost as astounding is the fact that there is a second team within striking distance of the title. Parkland is strongest in the jumps, sprints and sprint relays, and has several scorers in these events. Expect them to give chase to Cuthbertson. Northern Guilford is another team with several scoring threats and will try to hold off Hillside for the bronze here. Several other schools including Weddington, Western Guilford, Chapel Hill, Franklinton and Mount Tabor will be looking to top five finishes.
It'll come down to Parkland having a great day in the sprints and in the relays with Cuthbertson firing on all cylinders and having a good performance from their distance girls .
Boys
Weddington has a commanding 20.5 point lead in the virtual meet. Cuthbertson boys come in with a strong squad, but will need Weddington to falter and to have a near perfect day to be in striking distance. Anyone who has followed North Carolina track and field for long knows that the Mount Tabor squad will be in the mix as well.
Weddington has great distribution throughout the
running events, but their biggest advantage is a projected 30 points in the
relays. Depending where they choose to put their focus, this could help open up
the door in some of the running events. Parkland also has a history of track
success, particularly in the sprints. Their 4x200 relay also helps bolster a
run at the podium. Southern Durham, Marvin Ridge, Asheville and Orange are all
projected to score 20 points or more and will be in the mix for a medal at JDL.
