The New Bern boys wanted to do special things at the Raleigh Relays this weekend, and in day 1, they have! New Bern took nearly 2 seconds off the old SMR National Record, running 3:19.58 to finish 2nd among the college teams. The old record was set in 1981.

Coach Simpson just informed me that New Bern had a couple rough handoffs in the 4x200, but still ran 1:25.2. That time is good for US #2 and good for NC's All-Time #2 time.

In the 4x400, New Bern completed a successful meet by running a US #1 time of 3:12.82. This time makes them the fastest 4x400 relay team in NC history.

In the girls' 3200m HS race, Millbrook's 9th grade sensation, Samantha George, was the only girl to break 11:00. She ran 10:56.76 to win by about 4 seconds. The 2nd and 3rd place girls were from Pennsylavania & Virginia(sort of). Kaitlyn Davis, formerly of Jacksonville now of Mtn. View(VA), was 3rd in 11:04.31.

Behind them were a number of NC athletes running new PR's. Take a look at the results:
