3rd Annual Blue Ridge Classic

Results: Blue Ridge Track Classic

  • TC Roberson sweeps team titles, looking strong for 3A state titles
  • Joann Blakny of Mallard Creek won both the 100 and 200m titles, 12.33 & 26.34 - She also won the LJ in 17-10.25
  • Caroline Kirby of TC Roberson won the 1600 & 3200m races, 5:23.19 & 11:27.42
  • McDowell's Catherine Burton runs big PR in 3200 for 2nd, 11:32.98
  • Freshman Kristin Stout of Hendersonville also hit a a big PR for 2nd in the 1600, 5:25.42
  • Sophia Treakle of Asheville took both hurdle titles, running 15.35 and 47.11
  • TC Roberson took all the relay titles, 4x100(51.48), 4x200(1:49.53), 4x400(4:19.14), & 4x800(10:03.30)
  • Asheville's Giovanni McKnight swept the 100 & 200 - 11.14 & 22.74 (22.73 in prelims)
  • Three athletes run 2:03 in a close 800, won by Jakob Maidens of Lebanon(VA) in 2:03.03. Jakob also won the 1600 in 4:35.92.
  • Josey Weaver of Madison and Isaac Presson of Asheville both run 9:42 in the 3200 with Weaver winning - 9:42.09 to 9:42.13 - PHOTO FINISH
  • Owen's Michael Simmerson wins both the hurdle events, running 14.94 and 39.70
  • Asheville wins 3 of 4 relays - 4x100(44.55), 4x400(3:36.45), & 4x800(8:29.81)
  • TC Roberson's Artis Gilmore won the TJ by about 3 feet with a mark of 44-06
  • Matt Salzano of Watauga won the shot with a toss of 51-00

Blue Devil Invitational

Results: Blue Devil Invitational

  • Northwest Cabarrus' girls and Mooresville's boys win team titles
  • NW Cabarrus' Sushannie Blake won the 100 & 200, running 12.15 & 25.51. She also anchored her team to 2 2nd place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x200
  • 9th grader, Bryana Wood of Marvin Ridge won the 400 in 1:00.57
  • The girl's 800 went out slow, but came down to a great final 50m with Samantha Sawyer winning in 2:31.30 to 2:31.31. 2nd place was Haley Kapheim of Marvin Ridge.
  • Morgan Turner of Lincolnton won the 3200 in 11:55.17. It was her only race of the day but she had played AAU b-ball prior to the race
  • Hibriten's girls took both the 4x100(51.25) and 4x200(1:47.68). They won the 4x200 out of the 2nd fastest heat.
  • Sun Valley's girls won the 4x400(4:19.73) and 4x800(9:55.64). I believe it was the same group of girls that won both, showing they have good turnover.
  • Maddy Knowland of Mooresville won both the shot put and discus.
  • Victory Christian, a 2A Independent school, looks very strong in the sprinting events. This should be the team to beat at the NCISAA 1A/2A State Meet. John Osborne won the 100m in 11.24 and was 2nd in the 200 with a time of 22.74. They placed 3 athletes in the top 7 in the 100m, all at 11.60 or better. Then placed 2 in the top 6 of the 200, at 23.80 and better. They were 2nd in about 1:32.00 in the 4x200 but got DQ'd. Then they won the 4x100 with a time of 43.97 in far from ideal sprinting conditions.
  • Justin Avery of West Rowan won both the 200 and 400 with times of 22.43 and 49.90.
  • David McCuiston of Marvin Ridge ran a great race in the boy's 800, hanging tough with Patrick Campbell and pulling away down the homestretch running 1:59.89.
  • 9th grader, Scott Foy of Charlotte Country Day was 4th in an impressive time of 2:01.87
  • Will Taylor of Sun Valley ran away from the field in the 1600, running 4:32.79
  • Patrick Campbell ran an easy looking tempo run of 9:48 to win the 3200m.
  • The relays were won by 4 different teams: 4x100-Victory Christian in 43.97, 4x200-Mooresville in 1:31.91, 4x400-Marvin Ridge in 3:35.40, and the 4x800-Providence Day in 8:24.90
  • Jamel Allison of Mooresville, the field MVP, won the HJ(6-2), the LJ(22-00.50), and the TJ(43-02.00)
  • Mooresville's Jake Deaton took both the shot and discus titles, with tosses of 56-03 and 156-10
  • Gray Wilson of Central Cabarrus won the pole vault with a clearance of 13-00, 2 feet better than 2nd place.

 

Cougar Invitational

Results: Cougar Invitational

  • West Charlotte wins both team titles
  • Jacinda Evans of Southern Durham leaps out to 20-03.50! This ties her for 3rd in the US and ranks her 3rd in NC history.
  • Nyosha Bryant of West Charlotte wins 100 & 200, 11.93 and 24.47
  • Shadae Giles of West Meck ran 58.73 for 400m win
  • Myers Park's Becca Deloached won 800m in 2:20.67
  • Kimberly Spano of North Meck ran 5:12 & 11:22 to win 1600 & 3200m runs
  • Sherice Walker of Cummings won the 100mH, 300mH, & triple jump - 14.61, 46.00, & 37.50
  • Vance out does West Charlotte in 4x200, 1:42.11 to 1:42.37. Myers Park 3rd in 1:43.62 - Very fast times
  • Myers Park runs 4:06.84 to win the 4x400
  • West Charlotte dominates sprints/mid-distance as:
  • Demario House wins the 100 & 200 in 10.75 and 21.89
  • Bobby Grier wins the 400 in 48.90 and was 2nd in 200
  • Taddarian Phronebarger won the 800 in 1:57.83
  • They also won the 4x200 and 4x800m relays in 1:28.17 & 8:19.70
  • Alex Wiggans of Vance won the 1600 in 4:27.23
  • Spencer Adams of Butler won the 110H in 14.02
  • Isaac McReynolds of Vance ran well in the hurdles, 2nd in the 110H's in 14.56 and 1st in the 300mH, 40.55. Also won the HJ in 6-00.
  • Carver HS ran an impressive 42.57 in the 4x100m relay for the win. They also won the 4x400 in 3:24.21
  • There appeared to be a great battle in the LJ with 5 over 21 feet. The top 3 were: Joesph Samuels of Vance won with a 22-06.50, 2nd was McKinley Morning of Carver in 22-05.00. Finally 3rd was Michael Figgers from Hopewell in 22-00.00.
  • Montrell Morrow of Cummings won the discus by about a foot over Southern Durham's James Reese - 145-02 to 144-01.

Pepsi Florida Relays

  • East Forsyth's Dylan Ferris finished 2nd in 4:14.17.

Texas Relays

  • Aslynn Halvorson of Butler won both the shot and discus at the Texas Relays. She threw 150-08.00 and 43-08.75. It is a new personal best for Halvorson in the discus.

Beach Run Invitational(SC)

Results: Beach Run Invitational

  • Chris Bailey of Ardrey Kell won the 1600 & 3200m runs in 4:35.46 & 10:19
  • Ardrey Kell's Giavanni Scott won the shot with a toss of 51-11 and was 2nd in the discus, 145-01 (actually tied and had to go to 2nd furthest throw)
  • Ardrey Kell's boys finished 2nd overall in the team competition and their girls finished 4th
