North Carolina teams scattered across our state and into Virginia and South Carolina for a weekend full of racing. With so many athletes dispersed about, the votes for Week 3's top performances weren't as clean-cut as they've been in the past weeks. On both the boys' and the girls' sides of the poll, two athletes held the majority of the votes. Will these athletes remain atop the ballot for the remainder of the season, or will the weeks to come show a change of scenery? Keep up-to-date on all of your race results, interviews, and meet coverage at NC Runners, and come back next week to give another vote!
Female Performance of the Week
Nevada Mareno has asserted her dominance over the week's performances. With a blazing 17:38 on the new state-meet course against strong competition, the Leesville Road junior turned many heads at the Friday Night Lights invitational. We already knew she's a big talent, but she just set the standards even higher. Brittany Stanley also collected many votes for the third consecutive week, but the clear majority was in favor of Miss Mareno.
The fans and staff all say: Nevada Mareno, Leesville Road
Male Performance of the Week
Week 3 on the boys' scene had several performances that were all strong and within just a few seconds of one another. Unlike the poll for the ladies, the gentlemen's votes did not go for the weekend's fastest time or even the second-fastest time; Ben Savino and Connor Lane (15:55 and 15:56, respectively) were nearly neck-and-neck all week. Which athlete pulled away for the win?
