NCHSAA 4A State Meet Preview

Boys Relays and Team Scores

If Mallard Creek wants to pull off the team win, and both virtual meets place them as the favorites, then a lot comes down to the relays. The Mavericks hold the top seed in the 4x100, with Scotland right behind them, and they are the only school to run under 1:28 in the 4x200 this year - although Hoke County had the best regional time in that race. West Forsyth, Broughton, and Mount Tabor are all clustered right around the 8-minute mark in what promises to be a sprited 4x8, where the top 7 teams are within 4 seconds of each other. The meet will close with Overhills trying to hold off Wakefield in the 4x400.

In the end, it seems likely that Mallard Creek's field event strength will get them over the top, but if they struggle it could open the door to several teams. Hillside will contend if Marcus Krah jumps well, and they can get a 3-point boost from Desmond Jackson in the adaptive events. Overhills, Millbrook, Wake Forest, South View, and Apex could all sneak into the top 3 with the right combination of strong performances.
