Earlier in the track season, it was announced that Southeast Raleigh's Wayne Davis II and East Forsyth's Dylan Ferris would be competing for the United States at the IAAF World Youth Championships.
After this announcement, both athletes went on to do incredible things. Wayne, who had already set the sophomore 60mH National Record indoors, then broke the long standing outdoor record as well. Wayne now hold the National Record for sophomores indoors and outdoors. To go along with these accomplishments, he also won the National title by winning at the Nike Outdoor Championsips in a time of 13.65. At these championships, Wayne will be going ove 36 inch hurdles instead of 39 like he is used to. Let's hope this is a huge advantage for our North Carolina stud.
Dylan went on to win state titles in the 800 and the 1600. Then he traveled to the Milestat.com Elite Gala in Virginia and won the 800 there. His time of 1:49.27 was the fastest time in the country for high-schoolers at the time. Cory Primm, out of CA, bettered Dylan's time at the Nike Outdoor Championships, but Dylan still remained the #2 ranked HSer in the entire country. He also ran a splendid mile at the Raleigh Running Outfitters Mile Under the Stars. His time of 4:08.1 made him the 2nd fastest miler in NC history and he has another year left. Could 4:00 be a possibility? We'll see.
Results
Wayne has obviously not let up in his training. Wayne's 110m hurdle event was the first to compete in this meet. Wayne blasted his field in the prelims and set a mark for the other hurdlers in these championships. Wayne ran 13.38 to lead everyone in the prelims. His time is the fastest in the world this year for Youth, but was slightly wind-aided, +2.1. William Wynne, also of the US, was right behind him with the 2nd fastest time in 13.39 and is officially credited with the World Youth Leading time.
Check out the results from the 110m hurdle prelims. Wayne runs later today in the semi-finals and hopefully tomorrow in the finals.
