Sales, Hill, James, & Walker Perform in Puerto Rico

The Caribbean Scholastic Invitational held in Puerto Rico is only in its 2nd year. The meet is growing and should be something that more NC kids look at in the future.

2006 Results | 2007 Results | Entry Standards (you may be surprised!)

This year, four North Carolina athletes travelled to the meet as part of the National Scholastic Sports Federation (NSSF) team: Antonio Sales of East Chapel Hill, Ryan Hill of Hickory, and Latoya James & Sherice Walker both of Burlington Cummings. All four performed very well for the NSSF team. Here's how they did.

Latoya James

Latoya won the 100m hurdles in a very quick time of 13.68. Latoya's time was slightly wind-aided, and just missed her personal best time of 13.67. Latoya has run the 4th and 5th fastest time in NC history in the last couple weeks. She was on the NSSF's 4x100 team as well. This team finished 3rd with a very quick time of 46.68. She also finished 6th in the long jump. Latoya is headed to the University of Chapel Hill next year.

Sherice Walker

Sherice participated in the triple jump in Puerto Rico. She jumped a solid 38-06.75 for 2nd place in the event.

Antonio Sales

Antonio just missed his PR's in both the 100 & 200 meter dashes. His time of 10.69 placed him 3rd overall in the race. Then he came back to run a very fast 21.12 in the 200 for 2nd place. His 3rd event representing the US and Team NSSF was the 4x100. Antonio's team won the event with a time of 40.75, very quick. Antonio is headed to the University of South Carolina next year, known for a strong sprint team.

Ryan Hill

Ryan was supposed to race in both the 1500 and the 3000 but the 3k wasn't run for some reason. Ryan did win the 1500m run in 4:10.51. Not his fastest time, but probably one of his patented sit and kick wins. If you were at the 3A state meet you're aware of this tactic.

Congrats to all these athletes. You represented NC, the US, and Team NSSF well!
